Wakutama no Ike

Wakutama no Ike, designated as a Special Natural Monument, is located in the precinct of the Fujisan Hongu Sengen Shrine.

Throughout the year, this pond is filled with a consistent supply of Mt. Fuji’s snowmelt water which has passed through a layer of volcanic rocks.

It is said to be the best spiritual spot in Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha.

When you look at the surface of the water, this beautiful pond may make you feel as if a number of bubbles emerging to purify your mind.

In the old days, it was a custom that people purified themselves in this spring before climbing Mt Fuji.

Spring water, which is cold even in summer, has been selected as one of the ‘Japan’s 100 best waters’. There are drinking fountains for you to try.

This pond is a hidden gem where you should not miss after visiting Sengen Taisha.
